The
Reptile Co. goes Educational and Exotic!
Our
educational programs have been widely accepted locally and
we are constantly booking Birthdays, School Events, working
with Boy & Girl Scout troops, and charities. This has
been a great way to educate our younger consumers and spread
the message of how cool some of these animals really are!
In addition to the educational presentations, I have decided
to go a little deeper on the exotic side of things. The store
is in a transition, awaiting our USDA license. Currently in
the store, you can find hand fed birds and parrots, along
with Ferrets- with a full-line of necessary supplies. After
receiving final certification from the USDA, we are excited
to bring some very unique animals into the area. Keep your
eyes open for ground squirrels, short tail opossums, armadillos,
and even Kinkajous...WHO KNOWS what will crawl through the
door.
Back
in the day:
Back
in 1995, a bearded dragon (mistaken for a female) was sold
to our first customer, Ms. Fontaine of California. I cannot
thank her enough for her influence and assistance, forever
changing my life. That is how it all began.
In 1999, as a junior in High
School, Jordan Patch took his love for reptiles from a hobby
to a business under the name PatchWorks Reptiles. A number
of stores in Broome County took a chance and placed orders,
soon becoming frequent customers. That number continued to
grow each summer the business was active. Attending a number
of flea markets also added to PatchWorks Reptiles' local popularity.
However, the business fell on the back burner when Jordan
left to attend Le Moyne College.
In
the summer of 2002, PatchWorks Reptiles opened a showroom
in Binghamton, greatly increasing its customer base. PatchWorks
Reptiles' attendance at county fairs during the summer, continued
to increase the business' popularity. Pictures of the old
showroom and fair/flea market booth can be seen on the Pictures
page of this site. The showroom was closed in the fall when
school started once again.
PatchWorks Reptiles
officially ceased operations on 1/20/05 and The Reptile Co.
was "hatched". The Reptile Co. shifted its focus
to wholesale customers, but not like other animal suppliers.
Instead, The Reptile Co. offered a unique consultancy service
to its wholesale customers, redefining the wholesale service
that retail locations traditionally received.
The Reptile Co. Goes Public...
We
are growing! I have finally been able to make my dream become
a reality. With a college degree in business under my belt
and months and months of planning, I've decided to go retail.
This move will allow the large customer base we've developed
in Broome County, the opportunity to buy directly from us.
The wholesale operation will continue, focusing on stores
out of our area and across the country. Where will we go from
here? Check back soon!
